After a childhood of odd jobs in the circus and working on the Erie Canal, Canadian-born "French Louis" Seymour was perfectly suited for the dangerous tasks of a lumberjack. Later settling in the Adirondacks of New York, French Louis led a hermetic lifestyle whose reputation, by his death in 1915, had reached near mythic proportion.
